I write my DJ-disco-history books and blogs.

Sometimes sons (21, 16 old) ask - "what are you scribbling there dad"?

Something about: CHIC, KC, KOOL, EW&F, etc. I reply.

In response, I hear - "what is this?"??

Well, OK, I think, they don't know because and why - after all, it's old stuff - the youth of their old (70 years old - second family) father - but not their ...

Well, I suggest them to read this and that on my blogs or in books - although books are giants and you need a few months to study them well.

However, they do not want to read it - they say - "who needs it, they are no more with us, etc. - now we have a different music, hits, stars"

OK - I answer - I also like some of these time and play them in the car.

However, it reaches me that apart from us old jerks / cronies from the '70s, no one today cares about everything we loved as youngsters in our times --- NO ONE!!

There's nothing to be delude yourself about…
- but I still stay with mine - do I have another option?? :-) :-) :-) :-)

I'm in touch with Pete today and he describes what it was like then...

“My first week probably was the hardest then I sort of went in and out of what you might call trances of some sort then near the end I really started having hallucinations , etc.”

“ I little doze here and there but not sleep , after the record I slept for about three days I think”

“Had quite a few people watching and also helping to keep me going lol IE coffee and tea etc , I can remember going on TV after but can not remember anything I said to them”

“What I can remember after a while I sort of went in to what one might say a type of hypnosis I might have drifted a bit but because there was people there all the time they also kept me going with coffee etc I've got a picture of that somewhere I will try and dig it out,, there was situ with news paper reporter's would just sit there and not talk etc that got the moody bit going sometimes”

What is nasty and very hurtful in this whole story is that Guinness pretends to be deaf and blind and does not honor its certificate!! I have asked them many times but they do not answer definitely and specifically!! Club / discotheque and deejay media also behave badly in this situation, as well as organizations that ignore the topic instead of publicizing it strongly around the world ...

Well, it is what it is and I can only be sad because of so much indolence, carelessness and stupidity in this matter. The record is beautiful and valuable and all the more wonderful that no one has beaten it for 52 years / has not established a better one ...

It is not known yet what caused her death. I know Sherri for many years and she was very connected to the Emperor Rosko through many decades. Today, November 20th 2020 in the early afternoon Sherri Lynn passed away. Her nice Janet Reed informed me. It is not known yet what caused her death. I know Sherri for many years and she was very connected to the Emperor Rosko through many decades. It’s Michael Pasternak, aka the Emperor Rosko, who I asked after hearing of the passing to write his warm memories on which he responded within thirty minutes. --- Hans Knot

‘She was a far part of my life. I will miss her, she was very special. Unique in her ability to float above and still score points here on earth. I knew her as Brenda Pidduck back in the late 60’s and early 70’s of last century as a record promoter. She simply one day, after I left the UK, out of the blue said “I am now forming and running your fanclub and that was that. A semiprofessional fanclub and had personal words for everyone she had contact with. She helped to find radiostations to take the LA Connection and Coast to Coast country programmes on the air.

She always defended me no matter how bad I was, she never moaned about my spelling! She never gave up her love for music and radio, and then in a heartbeat, she was gone. What a vacuum, she was a person who one took kind of for granted as she was always a keyboard away. God help you though if you spelt her name wrong! She was one of the purest people I’ve ever known. Well, now she is pain free and watching us all, smiling, always smiling. It’s hard to put it all in words. We lost a true believer and a great friend, rest in peace Miss Sherri Lynn. EMP.

Joanie Labine, the first female DJ at the Whiskey, 1965.

The first DJ at The Whisky, played records in a booth that was suspended to the right of the stage. During one of Johnny Rivers’ sets, Labine was moved to dancing and the concept of the go-go dancer was born. Soon a ‘uniform’ of the go-go dancer also evolved: a girl wearing a short, fringed skirt and high, white boots. Go-go dancers began appearing in nightclubs and discotheques across the country. During his tenure at The Whisky (a one year contract), Rivers recorded the album, Johnny Rivers Live at The Whisky a Go-Go, and The Miracles’ song Going to a Go-Go soon gave the nightclub a national reputation.

Joanie Labine, the first female DJ and sound mixer at the Whisky A Go founded by Elmer Valentine, Phil Tanzini, Shelly Davis, and attorney Theodore Flier in 1964. Though the club was billed as a discothèque, suggesting that it offered only recorded music, they opened with a live band led by Johnny Rivers and a short-skirted Joanie spinning records between sets from a suspended cage at the right of the stage. The audience thought it was part of the act and the concept of go-go dancers dancing in cages was born!

Mary Wilson has died.

Mary was a founding member—and the longest member—of The Supremes. In the ‘60s, the group became Motown’s most successful act. Their songs are legendary, often about love: “Stop! In The Name of Love,” “Baby Love,” “Where Did Our Love Go,” “You Can’t Hurry Love” and so many more.

After The Supremes disbanded, Mary continued on as a solo act. She also became an author with her best-selling 1986 memoir, “Dreamgirl: My Life As A Supreme.” Other books and more music would follow. She gave her heart to a number of charity organizations.

R.I.P. HENRI BELOLO (Nov. 1936 - August 4, 2019)

I am sorry to report that Ritchie Family creator (together with jacques Morali) passed away at the age of 82.

Henri Belolo was a French music producer active during the disco era. Together with his friend composer Jacques Morali, he created The Ritchie Family first as well as their most successful group The Village People.

In 1975 Belolo agreed to finance a long-running residency for Morali at Sigma Sound Studios after Morali got the idea of releasing "Brazil" as a Disco song.

He was one half of Can't Stop Productions, Inc. alongside Morali. He was not a primary songwriter, rather he would occasionally write French-language lyrics for some songs, and afterwards, they would be translated.

He did however write English-language lyrics alongside Victor Willis and Peter Whitehead.

Belolo was born in Casablanca, Morocco. He continued to work in France as a music producer on his own label Scorpio Music producing many international stars like the late Eartha Kitt, Patrick Juvet and Gloria Gaynor a.o.

He is survived by his three sons Anthony, Jonathan, Stéphane and daughter Sonia.

My sincere condolences to them with the loss of their father.

And we thank here Mr. Belolo for the splendid music he created together with the late Jacques Morali. The music which will live on for many decades to come.
