HARD ROCK Los Angeles
During my
stay and life in Los Angeles (summer 1989 - spring 1990), Hard Rock bands were
extremely popular. I went to several club concerts and I remember an
extraordinary atmosphere and mood of those years, as well as beautiful girls -
fans of the bands. I also collected some CDs with this music, which I was very
passionate about at the time... The absolute stars of this trend were the
members of a band called 'Motley Crew'. Good fate even allowed me to somehow
reach this cool phenomenon that was the Hard Rock in Los Angeles at that time.

Namely, I
worked in Glendale at a company called 'Novotnys Refinishing', where two
members of the band 'Tattoo Rodeo' also worked - bassist Dennis Churchill Dries
and guitarist Rick Chadock. The band then became quite famous because they recorded
a great album and signed a nice contract with the famous Atlantic record label.
However, for very serious family reasons, I had to leave this paradise on earth
(as for me) and return to the almost
bankrupt Poland to Silesia to lead my difficult/hard life - raising my two
adolescent children alone...
Here is my memory from those years...
In the late summer of 1989, I filed papers for political asylum at INS Los Angeles (The Immigration and Naturalization Service) --- https://1952yahudeejay1970.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_3.html --- After an initial hearing in the INS office building in downtown Los Angeles, I received a temporary work permit and appropriate documents. While looking for a job, I found myself in Glendale, where I was employed by Gary Novotny - the son of a Czech immigrant - the owner of a company that repairs wooden parquet floors and furniture. The work was sometimes quite hard, but bearable - and it paid a nice salary regularly, every week.
At
Novotny's Refinishing, I worked together with two rock musicians from the then
unknown band 'Tattoo Rodeo'. They were (as mentioned above) the bass guitarist,
vocalist and composer Dennis Churchill Dries and the excellent guitarist Rick
Chadock, who once got an offer to play in the legendary 'Kiss'. In 1989,
'Tattoo Rodeo' had just recorded their first album. Then, after I left in 1990,
they had a hit and became quite popular.
From what I
remember, they were always nice/friendly to me, and besides, they were very busy.
They also came to meet (they found time for me) at 'The Great Grill' in Burbank
where the chef, Gary Novotny, organized a small farewell party for me a few
days before my departure back to Poland. They caused quite a stir in the pub,
being accosted by pretty waitresses and giving autographs. Well, I was bursting
with pride :-)
Rick Chadock RIP ---

In 2012, I learned that the band's guitarist Rick Chadock had died [on October 15, 2012, Rick Chadock lost his silent battle with cancer]. Currently, the band does not exist, but its founder - bassist - Dennis Churchill Dries is still active.
